With distribution throughout California this new, smaller, more focused organization is poised to grow the sales and profits of their retail partners with their newly expanded prefinished Portofino Wood Floors line display. Portofino consists of both solid and engineered platforms, along with smooth, hand scraped and exotic offerings made both domestically and globally. The company has also launched their Portofino Laminate Floors line consisting of over 50 styles and designs of laminate flooring. Additionally, the company will be working closely with the flooring contractor trade by expanding their unfinished solid and engineered flooring line Allen &Tuggle Wood Floors.
A new beginning for Golden State Flooring was forged in July 2012, when investor Simon Shushan collaborated with industry veteran and former Higgins employee Jason Grant, buying certain assets from Higgins, launching a new company called Golden State Flooring, Inc.
Between 2008 and 2012, the great recession took its toll on the Higgins organization and in June of 2012, J.E. Higgins Lumber Company began the organized wind down of their business units including Golden State Flooring. Assets, inventory, and divisions were sold off.
In the early 1920’s, Clifford Coates opened the first Golden State Flooring location in San Francisco, CA. It grew and served the marketplace and was eventually acquired in 1929 by J.E. Higgins Lumber Company. Golden State Flooring was kept as a separate division within the Higgins organization and continued to provide outstanding products and services to the flooring trade.
